Piriform, the company behind CCleaner, was swift to react to the issue and shut down the malware’s ability to operate
How to protect your PC from the CCleaner hack
Piriform fixed the vulnerability extremely quickly by taking down the server and, for those running the Cloud version (1.07.3191) of its software, the update was applied automatically
However, those running the standard version will want to regularly ensure that they’re running the latest version of CCleaner which can be downloaded from its website.
The affected version of the software was CCleaner 5.33.6162 (32-bit). If you’re using a later version than this, which you certainly should be, you won’t encounter any problems.
You can download the latest version of CCleaner from Piriform’s website.
If you would rather uninstall CCleaner from Windows 10 go to Start, Settings, System, Apps & Features, then find it in the list and select Uninstall.
