Netflix HDR content comes to Sky Q

The addition of HDR (High Dynamic Range) picture quality is rolling out from today and will arrive with all customers by mid-November.

Fraser Stirling, Group Chief Product Officer, Sky, said: “It’s great to add Netflix’s HDR films and TV shows to the growing collection of stunning HDR content on Sky Q, giving our customers a brighter, bolder and more realistic viewing experience.”

Note that, for starters, you will need to be Netflix Premium subscriber to get HDR content. This plan is also needed to watch in 4K Ultra HD resolution. You also need to have Sky Q Experience.

More of an issue, though, is that not all Sky Q boxes support HDR so those on an older model will have to upgrade to an HDR-ready box. Find out how to get HDR on Sky Q and the issues involved.

If you can get all the above to align, then all of Netflix’s HDR content will be available to you such as David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, Ratched and Criminal.

Sky is also adding to its own range of HDR content with titles such as Originals including Cobra, Bulletproof 2 and A Discovery of Witches. The Secret Garden will be the first Sky Cinema original film available in HDR.

Sky Q is available from £25 per month.
