Reboot Of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air Gets Two Season Order

The dramatic adaptation of the beloved nineties sitcom – The Fresh Prince of Bel Air – has been given the green light for two whole seasons on the NBCUniversal streaming service, Peacock. Will Smith made the announcement on his social channels.

Bel-Air was derived from a fan-made trailer by Morgan Cooper, which imagined the comedy show from a more gritty and nuanced perspective. The video went viral and caught the attention of Smith, who decided to bring the series to life with the help of his production company – Westbrook Media.

The show will be set in modern America, and each episode will be one hour long, digging deeper into the issues and subjects of a young man moving from the streets of West Philadelphia to the wealthy area of Bel-Air. However, NBC states that despite being a drama, the reboot will still contain “swagger and nods to the original show”.

Cooper wrote and directed the original trailer, and he will direct, co-write and serve as co-executive producer alongside writer, showrunner and executive producer Chris Collins. Collins has previously worked on shows such as The Man in the High Castle and The Wire. The series will also be executively produced by Will Smith, Terence Carter, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, and Andy and Susan Borowitz.

Meanwhile, HBO Max will be airing a reunion special episode with the original cast of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, which is set to air around Thanksgiving time.
